Liquid Paraffin

Liquid paraffin is a highly refined mineral oil used in medicine as a lubricant laxative. When ingested orally, it coats the stool and bowel walls with a waterproof film, helping to keep the stool soft and easing its passage through the intestines. It is also used topically in skin moisturizers and ointments to prevent water loss from the skin.

Dosage by Body Weight

For constipation, it is typically taken orally at bedtime. It should not be taken immediately before lying down to prevent accidental aspiration into the lungs, which can cause lipid pneumonia. It is not recommended for children under 3 years of age, pregnant women, or bedridden patients unless specifically directed by a doctor.
